University Botanic Gardens

Parks & Gardens

Cambridge’s famous University Botanic Gardens occupy a huge site on the south side of the city centre. There are large glasshouses featuring many different botanical climate regions, from Alpine to tropical; a waterlily-strewn lake; and the famous, very colourful and inspirational Winter Garden. The university College Gardens are one of the great secret delights of the city – Clare’s, Emmanuel’s and Newnham’s are particularly spectacular. In the early spring, the lovely and very famous walk along the Backs is given added enchantment by the early spring flowers that grow along the river.

Alternatively, head down to Parker’s Piece, a large area of open ground often used for informal sport, music and public entertainment events and summer fairs.

Lammas Land, Coe Fen, and Sheeps Green are common lands along the river where you should easily be able to spot many types of local wildlife.
